Kid’s Avenue Leaders Frequently Asked Questions

How long will I serve?  Typically Sunday School Leaders serve a minimum of 3 Months (1 quarter) at a time. Some Leaders do choose to serve longer. There are special situations where leaders serve shorter term.

Why should I serve for a minimum of three months?  Serving in a block of time allows you to build a personal relationship with the children. When you serve for 3 months or longer the children begin to recognize you as their leader and feel comfortable with you. When we are constantly switching leaders, children- especially preschoolers- are very reluctant to stay. WE want to minimize the discomfort and anxiety children feel when they encounter unfamiliar leaders. When you volunteer for a class we encourage you to shadow your class before you serve so you and the children can transition easily.

Where can I get supplies for the class? The basic supplies are in each classroom. They are located in bins marked Kid’s avenue. In the bins you will find scissors, glue sticks, markers, crayons, a hole punch, tape, scratch paper and construction paper.  For additional supplies check the closet located behind the Kid’s Avenue desk.

What if I can’t find what I need? If there are specific or special supplies that are needed for your class contact Magen Nice, Minister of Intergenerational Education and she can have them for you by the next week. Also if you notice supplies in your bins are getting low be sure to contact Magen so your bins can be restocked.

What if I need to miss a Sunday while I am serving? Each Sunday we count on our volunteers to be present. It is very important for you to be on time and to show up when you volunteer to lead. Please contact Magen ahead of time when you know that you will be missing a Sunday. When you receive your curriculum you will be given a calendar for the quarter, please fill out the calendar with the dates you know you will be missing a head of time. **Please try not to call Sunday morning to inform the Kid’s Avenue team that you will not be leading your class unless it is an unforeseen event ( sickness or an emergency)** When at all possible inform Magen or the Kid’s avenue team ahead of time.  Whenever possible arrange your own substitute for your class. If you are unable to find a sub please contact Magen She will help you.

Who do I ask if I have additional questions? Contact Magen Niece Minister of Intergenerational Education if you have any additional questions or comments
